A new survey – the “Peace Maker Barometer” – conducted in July, reveals startlingly-high levels of partner abuse in the South African population..The survey took an indirect approach to abuse measurement, measuring the ‘awareness of abuse’ rather than measuring abuse directly.

The survey also included the frequently neglected issues of verbal and emotional abuse. The survey was conducted using an online panel and had a margin of error of 5.6 percent. The survey was weighted to approximately represent South Africans living in Metro area in terms of age, race, ethnic group and income.
